  • Run the numbers

  • Take the next step

Finn and the Troutwood app turn what they learned into a plan built around where they stand.

Apps and games

Learn it by trying it. Finn comes along.

A map of the markets, a town to explore, real market cycles to play through, a quiz about the way you think about money, college and career research, and the app that puts it to work on your own numbers.

  • Ask Finn open in the Troutwood app. Finn waves and asks how he can help today, above tabs for Personalized Advice and General Finance Questions and a card reading, under a Decision Making label, can I afford to purchase a house in the next year. A text field at the foot reads: ask Finn a question.

    Ask

    The Troutwood app

Finn operates securely inside Troutwood. Answers to your question are built around where you stand and what comes next.

  • A browser window holding Map of the Markets, a map of North America scattered with hundreds of coloured company markers clustered thickest across the northeast. A card in front of it reads, beside Finn in purple sunglasses: can you find me? I’m hiding somewhere on the Troutwood map.

    Explore

    Map of the Markets

Find Finn and explore public companies, the markets they trade in, and what owning a piece of a company actually means.

  • A browser window holding Finulator, a flat illustrated town under a blue sky. A character stands on a green lawn between two rows of trees, with a row of blue houses behind and a road running along the front of the frame.

    Simulate

    Finulator

Finn’s town, built to make money easier to understand. Explore saving, spending, investing, and everyday financial decisions by seeing how they work—not just reading about them.

  • Two handsets showing Buy Sell Hold. The one behind is red: a portfolio of $15,102, down 8.07 per cent, with Finn wincing beside the chart. The one in front is green: $5,320, up 47.67 per cent, with Finn in a party hat. Both carry buy, sell and hold buttons along the bottom.

    Play

    Buy Sell Hold

Can you beat Finn? Play through real market cycles alongside Finn. Make the call to buy, sell, or hold—and see what happens next. Learn why patience, perspective, and time matter when you invest for the long term.

  • Two handsets showing Finmoji, powered by Troutwood. One holds a five minute assessment of emotional and cognitive biases, with Finn in the middle of it. The other browses the characters by topic, showing one called Cash Jumbled whose speciality is mental accounting.

    Discover

    Finmoji

Meet Finn’s friends, and discover the Finmoji that fits you—and what it says about the way you think about money.

  • College Explore in the Troutwood app, under the line explore demographics, tuition costs and more. A search field sits over a list sorted by admission rate: A.T. Still University in Kirksville, Missouri, Abilene Christian University in Abilene, Texas, Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton, Georgia, and Academy of Art University in San Francisco, with an A to Z index down the right edge.
One college opened in College Explore: Abilene Christian University in Abilene, Texas, with a link to its website. A demographics card reads 46.9 per cent male and 53.1 per cent female, then the student body by race and ethnicity, and an admissions card begins underneath it with a 6.7 per cent admission rate and enrollment of 4,516.

    Research

    College Explore

Search and sort colleges across the country, then open any one for its tuition, admissions and the students who go there.

  • Explore Careers in the Troutwood app, under the line compare salaries, outlook, job satisfaction and more. The search field reads Pittsburgh, PA. Below it, occupational groups as photo cards: arts, design, entertainment, sports and media occupations, then architecture and engineering occupations.

    Compare

    Career Explore

Browse careers by occupational group, then compare salaries, outlook and job satisfaction where you live.

The Missing Semester series

A short course in the essentials.

Two books by Troutwood CEO Gene Natali, who has taught personal finance at the University of Pittsburgh since 2015 and spoken in more than 1,000 high school and college classrooms.

Both books are also inside the Troutwood app, with chapter discussions and more than 250 short quiz questions. More on the series at themissingsemester.com (opens in a new tab).

Before you read the results

Estimates, not promises.

  • An average, not a forecast

The market calculators assume 10% a year, close to the S&P 500’s long-run average. Real years land far above and far below it.

  • The math is on the page

Every calculator writes out what it assumes and the formula it uses, so you can check the number instead of taking it on trust.

  • Education, not advice

These figures are for learning. Your taxes, your timeline and your tolerance for risk belong in a conversation with a qualified professional.

Learning it is the first step. Troutwood helps with the next one.

Past performance is no guarantee of future results.
