About Us

Prior to starting Troutwood, Gene spent 17-years working with large pension funds and institutional investors. He is an award-winning author (The Missing Semester) who has key-noted investment and education conferences across the country and spoken in over 500 high school and college classrooms. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst and holds a bachelor's degree in Economics from Allegheny College, and an MBA with a concentration in finance from Carnegie Mellon University. Gene is also a board member of CFA Society Pittsburgh, part-time lecturer at the University of Pittsburgh and Executive in Residence at Penn State Behrend. He, his wife, four children and chocolate lab, live in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Rachel Brumbaugh is Chief Product Officer of the Troutwood team, where she brings a wealth of experience in financial services and product management. Prior to joining Troutwood, Rachel earned her master's degree from the University of Pittsburgh. She is a certified Scrum Master and is currently pursuing her CFP marks with Kaplan, demonstrating her commitment to professional growth and excellence in financial planning. Rachel has been instrumental in the development and enhancement of Troutwood's financial planning tools, particularly focusing on innovative solutions for student loan debt and negative net worth challenges. Her work is marked by a user-centric approach that empowers individuals to achieve their financial goals. Rachel started as an intern at Troutwood during the company's 2019 launch. Outside of work, Rachel enjoys spending time outdoors with her two dogs in Huntinton, WV where she resides.

Maggie Mayer is a seasoned digital developer at Troutwood, where she leverages her computer science expertise to drive technological innovation and enhance the company's digital presence. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science with a minor in Economics from the University of Pittsburgh and has been an integral part of Troutwood since starting as an intern during the company’s launch in 2019. In her role, Maggie is responsible for coding on Troutwood's website and mobile app, ensuring seamless user experiences and robust functionality. She also contributes to the digital work for the Troutwood brand, enhancing its online presence and engagement. Born and raised in Pittsburgh, Maggie continues to call the city home. In her free time, she enjoys watching movies, attending spinning classes, and spending time with friends.

Yazid, a Fulbright scholar, is an accomplished software engineer who pursued his MS in Information Technology - Software Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University. He also holds an Engineering Degree from the Higher National School of Engineers in Tunis. Having embarked on his professional journey in 2012, Yazid has rendered his expertise to renowned organizations including Siemens, the Max Plank Society, Airbus, and Volkswagen.
His technical proficiency spans multiple programming languages, frameworks, cloud and AI, alongside hands-on experience in DevOps and software architecture. Yazid is enjoys reading and writing about technical topics, and is passionate about sharing technical insights, mentoring budding developers, and driving innovative solutions within the team. Beyond the tech world, Yazid cherishes moments riding motorcycles, practicing martial arts, and exploring archery. He currently resides in beautiful Lower Saxony, Germany, with his beloved wife and son.

Evimar is an experienced Software Engineer with certifications in AI, Machine Learning, Data Science and Big Data Analysis. She has a problem-solving mindset with a passion for data structure and algorithms. Prior to working at Troutwood full-time, she spent 4 years developing financial tools, and before that was a system engineer and DBA. She believes in continuous self-improvement, and lives with her husband, three children and several pets.

Peter likes to work between design and programming to create educational interactive experiences. He was part of Troutwood's Finulator team from the beginning, responsible for game design and front end development. Currently, he works as a full stack software engineer for Troutwood. Peter approaches software as a dialog between user and developer- rather than showing you what to do, software needs to give players and users the opportunity to test the limits of what they can do. Peter received a bachelors in Fine Arts with a minor in Game Design from Carnegie Mellon University. He currently lives in West Hempstead, NY.

Kyle is a software engineer with experience leading projects and teams through his consulting firm ANTLR Interactive. He has over a decade of experience in regulated environments like healthcare and banking and is a Sitepoint author. His mobile and Ruby on Rails projects have been featured on TechCrunch, ABC, CBS, and USA Today. Currently, he resides in Pittsburgh with his wife, Nicole, and two cats, Ruby and Jasper. When he is not building products, he likes to eat.

Kevin graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 2014 with a degree in Computer Science and recently completed his Master’s of Software Engineering at CMU. Prior to joining Troutwood, Kevin worked in the healthcare space developing a speech recognition application used by radiologists worldwide to help them quickly and more accurately dictate reports. In his spare time, he enjoys training in martial arts (Muay Thai and Jiu Jitsu), salsa and bachata dancing, and playing guitar.

Ashwin is from the sunny, touristy state of Goa, India. He comes with a mix of experiences since growing up in the Bahrain until he was 16, and then moved to India for undergratuate school. Before moving to the U.S. to pursue a Master's in Software Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University, Ashwin worked at 4 different companies as a Full-Stack Software Engineer; spanning startups to India's leading eCommerce and online fashion companies. Outside of work he is either cycling around Shadyside, playing Tennis with his mates, or screaming at the television when Formula1 is on (any Alonso / Verstappen fans here?). He also enjoys cooking and experimenting with different cuisines!

Richard is a software engineer with a passion for web and mobile development, tools and infrastructure. He is proficient in many languages (Bash, JavaScript, HTML, CSS), libraries (React/React Native, Node, Python), tools (Git) and platforms (AWS). He has over 10 years of professional experience including system design from inception to beautiful UI/UX publishing and implementation. He likes to play table tennis and badminton in his spare time.

Alan graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a double major in Computer Science and Pre Medicine. After some time in both the healthcare and tech industry, he returned to higher education at Carnegie Mellon University, where he earned a Master's in Software Engineering with a focus in Scalable Systems. For fun, he enjoys ultimate frisbee, training Jiu-Jitsu, and programming in personal projects. Among Alan's favorite personal projects was a set of twitter bots he developed. One of them went viral, reaching over a hundred thousand followers!

Previous to joining Troutwood, Mike was a 32-year teacher of personal finance and business courses, as well as an IB certified business instructor in the Corning-Painted Post High School in NY. He was the business department chairperson and the head boys’ basketball and golf coach. Mike also was the Director of Education of the FoolProof Foundation for twenty years, a leading digital financial literacy curriculum. Mike has given over 1,000 keynote, conference and professional development trainings, on financial empowerment, and was instrumental in growing FoolProof into a major educational foundation. Mike lives in Amelia Island Florida, with his wife Patty. They have two children, who reside in New York State.

Beth is responsible for customer experience from sales through marketing and product. Her primary role involves working in the client-facing side of the product to ensure a good experience as soon as someone learns about Troutwood. Beth has a double undergrad in French and Marketing from the University of Pittsburgh, and a MBA from Carnegie Mellon University. With over 15 years of experience in a multiple industries and companies, Beth loves to build and grow new products and companies from 0 to 1. When not working, she loves to be outside and active, read and binge-watch TV shows.

Before joining Troutwood, Dan Cannon spent 14 years in education as an economics and financial literacy teacher in Florida and Texas. He also served as a curriculum and instructional specialist for Duval County schools, where he honed his expertise in developing curriculum and professional development for the personal finance classroom. A self-professed finance nerd, Dan is passionate about empowering students and adults alike to take control of their financial well-being and achieve their financial goals. At Troutwood, he focuses on sales outreach, leveraging his educational background to connect with schools and other organizations. Dan enjoys spending his days outdoors with his wife and two daughters at their home in sunny Jacksonville, FL.
